For over 30 years, Optec has specialized in the design and production of turnkey laser micromachining solutions. Our products range from flexible R&D workstations to robust 24/7 Industrial configurations with manual or automated part handling that cover all types of applications. Optec’s team of experts assess each case individually in order to find the best combination of laser wavelength (deep UV to far IR), pulse duration (femtosecond to CW), and beam delivery design for your application.

Optec is known as Athermal experts with unequaled experience in deep-UV excimer laser processing and more recently, picosecond and femtosecond laser processing. The Company is distinguished by its core competencies including in-house optical design capability, and Optec’s proprietary laser processing softwares: ProcessPower and OptecCAD. Our knowledge-base and resources make it possible to push system performance beyond industry standards.

  • 1991

    Founding of Optec, a spiritual successor to Lasers Applications Belgium, on the historic Grand-Hornu industrial site.

  • 1992

    First-ever Optec laser workstation sold to IREPA laser.

  • 1993

    Optec produces its first microvia drilling machine. The station could drill 4 vias/s with placing accuracy better than 2µm.

  • 1994

    Design & build of the highly innovative excimer-based MicroMaster workstation, which saw continuous development 1994-2012, with V7 still being supplied today.

  • 1996-1997

    Designed and built of first standard systems. The excimer-based LightDeck and the MicroMaster; now producing the 3rd generation of MicroMaster.

  • 2003

    Inauguration of the first phase of Optec’s current European HQ. Following the company's growth, a new building was constructed to house: R&D, Design, Production and our Applications Lab.

  • 2005

    Design and build of Optec's first fully automated catheter processing system. The CR200 workstation used highly efficient Pattern Recognition Software to accurately & automatically position the catheter under the process head.

  • 2006

    Optec launches its Laser-Lift-Off range of workstations, driven by ever increasing market demand for more compact, affordable LLO solutions.

  • 2008-2010

    First ultra-short pulse systems. Optec developed picosecond and femtosecond laser micromachining systems capable of processing a wide array of materials with minimum thermal damage.

  • 2011

    Production of our first Hybrid machine. Our quest to innovate and optimize performance led us to merge two different laser technologies into a single workstation, the very first in a long list of "hybrid" machines.

  • 2016

    Grand opening of our first (Class ISO-7) cleanroom. The 100 sqm facility allows us to process parts, assemble and test our products in a safe and controlled environment.

  • 2017

    Founding of Optec LLC. Led by a team of highly experienced longtime partners, Optec now has a permanent presence, including demo lab, in San Diego, CA. with sales, service and applications support throughout the Americas.

  • 2020

    The LASEA group (www.lasea.com), one of the world leaders for the design and manufacture of precision laser machines, announces the purchase of the majority shares of the OPTEC company.
